The metal band was a gold color on mine, but they looked to be a close match to the original, too. I circled the problem area in my attached pic. They "bowed" out too much in that area so the cover wouldn't fit, and if you tried to adjust any of the bow out, it just went to the bottom of the band, and that would keep the cover from fitting. I could see why posters had been advised in the archives to cut 1/4" out of the band and re-weld it. I had the band attached to the actuating lever, and had to pound it with a block of wood to just test-fit in the cover on the workbench.
