I'm thinking the trans. did have water in it at an earlier time. I have not owned this tractor but a few months. One of the first things I did was to pull the drain plug and check for water. None. The oil looked to be new. This means to me that at an earlier time it did have water in the trans. and it got drained and the fluid replaced. Maybe that is what caused the rust, as there is a slight leakage thru the seals.
