The serial number is stamped into the LH frame rail in front of the radiator, except some late ones it's next to the bellhousing. There is also a serial # stamped on the engine. If it's the original engine it should be close to the one on the frame if not the same. If the exhaust comes through the hood someone put a different manifold on it.
