My preception is that the diode(s) would permit two 12 volt batteries to be charged by a 12 volt alternator but allow the batteries to be connected in series to allow the starter to function off 24 volts. I was thinking that the alternator could not be a one wire alternator in this case but now I am uncertain as one of the 12 volts could possibly excite the alternator. Regardless the Diodes are going to be expensive and a series parallel switch is available off junk at junk prices.
