and couldn't get the timing right. Figuring something was now severely off, I decided to pull the distributor & start fresh. To my dismay, the drive shaft fell out onto the floor. I didn't know how easy it was to reinstall & retime it at the time, so it went on the shelf in favor of conversion to a mag with 6v + ground (was 12v alt., - ground). The alternator to generator change-over went great. The mag, on the other hand, is in poor health. Never seen a groove worn in a breaker cam before & the points were pitted to a 45° angle. The points kit I was able to obtain had a junk condenser with an unthreaded bent post & NO stationary point. Came with a .020" feeler, too.
After some thought, I remember reading about a 6v + ground batt. ignition setup here on the forum. That's the route I went. The wiring harness was easy enough to modify & the info for timing a batt. ignition was found in my 400 manual. With everything wired in & timed I gave the starter button a push. Then, another push. Again & again to no avail. I went over that tractor stem to stern four times before finding the coil wires switched around. It's always the dumb things that provide the biggest hangups!!
Now, I didn't come here to bore you guys with my wiring dilemmas. I came to thank everyone for the help. Not just for the current electrical issues, but for all of the assistance I have received here in the past. I wouldn't have the knowledge to tackle half of these projects if it weren't for y'all. Wouldn't be tackling my own electrical problems, either. Definatly did not know I could go from 12v alt. - ground with batt. ign. to 6v genny + ground with a mag to 6v genny + ground with batt. ign. until I started reading here.

Today's Featured Article - Talk of the Town: How to Remove a Broken Bolt - by Staff. Another neat discussion from the Tractor Talk Discussion Forum. I've already drilled the center of the bolt out with about 7/64" drill bit the entire length of the bolt. Only one end of the bolt is visible. I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t
