You really should have 4 chains...one on each corner. When hauling one of my painted tractors, we always use 10,000lb rated axle straps and hook the chains to those. Around a front frame rail on each side and each axle housing on the back. Can put cardboard between the axle straps and paint if your really worried (I usually do).
