Rusty is correct. Pulling the old seals out, and cleaning the shaft to metal to be able to see it clearly, is needed. Using a good bright light, see if there are grooves in the pinion shaft. a probe like a dental pick, or wire can be used to "feel" for grooves. A hand lense can also help (I use one to see well close like this (63yrs old)) Grooves allow even new seals to leak. placing the new seal at a depth where there is no groove works. Pack the new seal with grease, and grease the shaft when putting it in. This assures it will have a long life. Jim
