Positive ground from the factory. However which polarity it is grounded today 70 years later is anybody's guess.
If in doubt, connect the battery with the positive post grounded. Now polarize the generator: With the battery connected momentarily jumper the BAT and GEN terminals at the regulator (or cutout if equipped). You should then be good to go!
