I used to use some stuff on Corvette head bolt threads that seemed to do the job. It was a hi-temp silicone adhesive/sealant. It may have been Permatex Hi-Temp Form-A-Gasket. It was definitely orange in color.

One thing, though: I didn't allow for any lubricating effect the sealant may have had on the threads. I would think it would take less torque on the bolts to put the same amount of force on the head, since the bolts were "slipperier".

Maybe there's a rule of thumb for reducing the torque. Are there any machinists or mechanics out there with any advice?
