If the numbers came off of a serial number plate it would have to be one of the later IH gas engines. The serial plate would be for the the power unit assembly, not just the engine. I don't know just when IH switched to that kind of serial number plates but it was somewhere around 1970 or just a bit earlier. The numbers would be the kind, code, country of manufacture, and the sequential serial number. If that is the case mot likely the V is actually a U, made in the USA.
Going with that assumption, being a four cylinder, if it is a flat head engine it would be a C60, same as a Cub. If it is an overhead valve engine it could be a C157, C175, or C200. I think the C153 was discontinued before the change in serial number styles. I am not familiar enough with the Cub engine to know where the serial for the engine is stamped but on the others the size and serial number should be located near the distributor.
