No, the pipe threads will seal 500 psi natural gas, so less than .05 psi exhaust gas is no sweat.

But you need good threads, and they need to be made up tight.

Your old one is welded because it was run loose and the threads wore out with the pipe wobbling around in it. Accolades to the guy who welded it and made it stay, he's a welder.
