The clue to your problem is in your second paragraph. You are losing voltage to the switch either from a poor cable or connection or a weak battery. If the engine cranks OK you can rule out the battery. I don't remember if the wire to the glow plug switch comes from a junction block or if it comes direct from the starter battery connection. Just keep going back from the switch toward the battery to see where the voltage drop occurs and you will find your problem.
