cub engine rebuild

My brother was working on his cub motor and we noticed numbers stamped on the pistons 1,2,3,4 and letters on the top of the block A,D,D,B. Is this factory? I suppose the pistons are for order but are the letters for some type of tolerance fit? What is the largest bore possible for rebuild purposes? How does the High Altitude head differ from a normal? Do we have room to mill the head alittle ? Can anybody suggest a source for information on rebuilding a cub for more power or is that an oxymoron? Thanks Jim
