We finally towed it around the yard, and after a full circle of the shop it popped once, then nearly another full circle before the next pop, and then they came quicker, and pretty soon it was running. (a great feeling!) Restarting cold wasn't going well until I messed with the glow plug connections, and now it starts right up. It sounds like it has a knock which seems to go away when it gets pretty warm. The knock may just be in my head - I'm used to the purr of a Super C, so this diesel sounds loud regardless. Time to tackle a power steering leak and the altenator. Thanks again.
