Thanks Pete. I am still confused. I bought repair manuals and it said I had a 656 on the 3514. I do have foot pedals (forward and reverse)that speed the engine the further you push. I also have 4 forward gears that I guess work in reverse. Don't need to go 20MPH in reverse so I never have used the high gear in reverse. Probably that is why the manual doesn't make since to what I am seeing on the tractor, although some of the pictures are correct. One book I have does say torque converter and shuttle transmission model 3514 and 3616. I suppose that is what I have. It makes since now because it tells me about the control valve and how it ports oil to the torque converter. I will ignore the 656 book. Confusion gone. Seems this transmission is less complex than the 656.
Do you know if the transmission tank should be vented? I have received 1 yes, and my buddy said yes (makes 2). I have a solid cap with a dip stick that seems to be right, but I can't seem how it would vent. My oil seems to be somewhat foamy and a tan color.!!!
