If it has the digital electrical tach there is a switch that supplies it power to the tach after the tractor gets oil pressure. I have had these switches go bad. the switch is screwed into the oil gallery on the block just to the rear of the oil filters. I replaced one on our 186 about 3 weeks ago and found a switch at napa for about $8.50 and Case IH wanted about $60 for it. the napa # is OP6624 or OP6616. I like the first one it is physically shorter in size but either one will fit they and work the same.
