I have. Some get hot enough to show red in the dark but not in daylight or twilight. That"s about 400C. Brazing alloys don"t melt below 840C. That"s red in sunlight.

You can"t weld without melting the workpiece. I can"t see how that is not going to result in the formation of a band of white iron (and indeed what most welders have been telling me is "I can try to weld it with nickel rod. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn"t".)

I wouldn"t braze the exhaust headers on a race car, but then they aren"t likely to be cast iron.
