The 504 engine has nothing in common with the H engine other than both were made by IH. The C-153 in the 504 is the ultimate stretch job on the old C-113 based block. For it's size, my old 504 had plenty of lugging power and was smooth right up to rated RPM. Watch the TA and look out for manifold cracks. These get expensive. Also, avoid the diesel version like the plague. They had plenty of troubles, and they're also VERY expensive to fix.
