The guys who had 1206s around here back when they were new normally pulled a 16" # 560 plow. In our soils that was all a stout 12 wanted. Normal plowing gear would have been L-3 & in a lot places L-3 with the TA pulled back.
I had a '67 806 D that I pulled a 14" 560. Basicialy the same gears as the guys with the 12s & 6x16s. Many spots I felt like getting off & help push the tractor thru the tough spots. Probably at least 50% of the guys with 8s pulled 16" 550s which was a little bit better matchup.
N way in our Sable & Ipava loams would a 1206 pull a 8x16" plow. We have a 7x16" 720 on-land plow that we pulled behind our MX 275 mfd last yr and in places you knew it was back there
As others have stated, I don't recall IH ever making a 8x16" in-furrow plow. I think maybe Massey did but not positive of that, may have been on-land as well.

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
