Yes, check the resistance from the F Terminal to the A terminal. If it is open, (infinite resistance)the field windings are not connected properly. If it a three brush generator, the third brush might not be either connected, or maybe it is not touching the armature. The field is grounded through the regulator to make it work. It gets its voltage from the armature. It is an A type generator Googling it will help. Jim
