With the fuel on remove the drain plug on the carb & catch what comes out in a large coffee can, tap the side of the carb with a large screwdriver handle, this should dis-lodge any trash in the needle & seat, turn the fuel off & replace the drain plug.Turn the fuel back on & after a few minutes fire it up.
Next time it dies, get off & lay your hand on the coil, if it is too hot to touch, the coil has gone bad, if it is just as warm as the engine, then I;ll bet you have a fuel starvation issue.
Try turning out the main jet screw (at the front on the bottom of the carb) a turn or two, if this helps you should check the stand pipe in the gas tank for clogging with rust or trash, then the sediment bowl & screen(clean it), remove the fuel line at the carb, remove the brass bushing the fuel line screws into and replace or clean the brass screen there, remove the carb bowl ( will need a new gasket) clean it out and check (clean or replace) the needle & seat, set the float ( I believe it is fuel level 9/16, float height 1-5/16), remove the two jet screws & squirt some carb cleaner such as Berryman's chemtool in through the jets to clean them, then install the bowl with a new gasket.
