I live about 20 miles from the plant where the combines are currently made. Its in East Moline, where Axial Flows have always been made. Now that Case is part of CNH, the plant will be closed and production moved to the current New Holland plant in Grand Island, Nebraska. It will close by 2004, but if a deal can be made with the union it will be closed earlier. The cotton pickers have already been moved to South America and I have heard that heads are no longer being made there either. CNH said the plant is to be closed due to its physical size, it is 1.5 foot too short for the next generation of combines. Any person can tell it was closed because its unionized. Every Case plant that had a union was closed. The Grand Island plant had also just received a multi-million dollar renovation.
