In my youth in the late 1940's and early 1950's my grandfather had the neighborhood trashing machine. He spent most of his time on top where he moved the blower to stack the straw and keep track of the grain being separated from the straw for excess chraf debris. It was also a great vantage point to look down and see if all the chains and belts were "behaving" properly or needed a little belt dressing. Grandpa was always proud of his straw stacks and think that was the center of his attention when we trashed throughout the neighborhood. Hope this helps, Hal. P.S. If OSHA had been in exsistance in those days the world would have straved to death. I never recall anyone being hurt around a trashing machine but can't say the same for silage cutters and silo blowers, corn pickers, hay balers, etc.
