Those injection nozzles were pretty crude on those M diesels. The valve in the nozzle can be taken apart and lapped to get a decent sealing surface so they don't leak and the actual spray pattern is the hole in the orfice plate which is seperate. I would doubt that they cannot be put back into service with no noticable loss of performance. They didn't go to a more precision style until the open nozzle in the 450 diesel and I cannot honestly say they ran any better . A precup engine does a really good job of breaking up that fuel once it gets good turbulence when warmed up and up to speed. I used to have a little spacer gauge to get a pretty close opening pressure setting as it is adjustable with a double lock nut on the stem of the nozzle. I think you need to get a hold of an old guy to clean and test them who is familiar with that style nozzle. None around here anymore in the diesel repair shops that is for sure. Got to have the feel for them.
