I asked about this a few weeks ago and IIRC the whole thing can be performed without taking the deck cover off the tractor on a Super M.
I've got an M&W clutch on my Super M, myself. It sorta works sometimes. I took the cover off and a steel ball came out. Dunno if that's part of the over-center mechanism or if it's part of a disintegrating ball bearing.
There is a diagram if you go to modern view and search for "Super M M&W clutch diagram." Unfortunately, it doesn't have a parts list, and when you get to the outside end of the blowup, all you can see are several small nondescript parts with numbers pointing to them. I can't tell if one of them is a steel ball or not.
