You're not doing anything wrong - it's just being difficult.
Here's a few pictures to help confirm what you probably already know should be on the other side. Nothing fancy - that bearing just needs to slide out.
Try to get something under the gear to give you some leverage.
If all alse fails you could use a torch to heat up the casting around the bearing - just don't go too hot - you don't want to crack anything.
Sometimes warming it up a little bit is enough to loosen the grip.
