Sould be 6 bolts. If the adapter plate is stuck to the adapter housing it has a oring and fits tight in the housing the 6 bolts come out of. That housing needs to stay in place to the transmission housing. When the adapter plate is out of the way regular IH size bolts need to go back in the housing. When the adapter parts are out a M&W bull pinion shaft with a bearing comes out and then is replaced with a regular SM type bull pinion shaft. Other fellows are thinking about band brake M tractors when saying the axles and bull gears need to be removed. On a regular SM a plate that the inside disc brake shoe contacts holds the bull pinion and bearing in and has the shaft seal and is also a tight fit with oring. On the M&W set up the adapter plate and round part of the adapter housing hold the bull pinion and bearing in.
