You guys are right--it all depends on the soil. I do pull 5 bottoms with a Super WD-9 in 3rd gear. I have never tried a straight WD-9 on the plow, so I can't say for sure how it would handle it--probably okay in 2nd gear. The soil is very sandy and the plow does a great job. I have even added a crowfoot packer and small IH pony press drill to the set up to seed some rye at the same time. It really does work well in the sandy soil. The heavy land here shouldn't be plowed, you end up with a big lumpy mess if you do. Some guys tried it anyway--once.
