I know you asked for factual information, but I wanted to pass along my Dad's comments. They used distillate, which he thought was No. 1 Diesel, and he also calls it tractor fuel. He did not like to use it because you had to run the engine like an IHC Diesel: start and stop on gasoline. But his dad kept buying it because of the superior power they had when doing heavy work. It was also cheaper, in part due to no road tax. This is not factual, but is his memory. His experience is that the same tractor will pull more on distillate. I'd bet the same is true of kerosene (also known as jet fuel). Factually, kerosene is a lighter cut from the crude than Diesel. Jet fuel is just highly refined kerosene with additives. It burns great in kerosene lanterns. Gasolene is lighter yet. Gasoline is gasolene with additional components and additives.
