Its possible to just use the old 6 volt genny but change to a 12 volt voltage regulator, Ive done it and it works.....NOWWWWWW before anyone has a calf and gets all worked up, take a chill pill, IM NOT SAYING THATS ENGINEERING CORRECT or that it charged at any high rate, IM ONLY SAYING IT CAN WORK
The CORRECT way is to have the shop change out the Field Coils and convert it to 12 volts then get a 12 volt VR etc orrrrrrrr just go buy a 12 volt unit
If its not charging enough check out my Troubleshooting Procedure, it may be a minor problem.
