TDC on compression stroke. If you get it on exhaust/intake stroke, only 2 cylinders will fire. BTDT!! Just loosen up the distributor clamps and turn the distributor body until the points spark. Note the rotor position. That post, no matter where it is on the distributor cap, should be wired to number one plug. Now if you want to pull the distributor and fiddle with it so the rotor is around the 2:00 position for number one, that is up to you. I hope this is making sense.
