You may be right, Merlin...it is a judgement call. Sometimes removing a manifold will open a can of worms that's best left un-opened. The screws holding the dog-legs to the radiator tank can also present a problem. Certainly, removing the stub of a broken exhaust pipe would be easier at the bench. It all will depend on how long the different components have been in place.
