Andy, The reason is that I'm going to add a block heater that heats the coolant in the engine. I live in northern Michigan and I would like to get the engine warm before I start snow plowing. The block heater I have requires taking a chunk out of the cooling system piping (it used to be on a car). Due to the space limitations in the tractor, I decided the best way to put it in the cooling system would be to connect the two heater hoses (by valves and plumbing) to the radiator drain and the engine block drain. The water would circulate through the radiator and engine according to my service manual diagrams (the previous owner removed the thermostat). The thing I have to find out is if the drain plug and cap have a standard 3/8" thread; if not, I'll have to find a different way. In anticipation of the question, "Why not by a heater that is compatible with the tractor?" the answer is: the block heater is free, so I have to at least try it.
