I have a 656 diesel hydro. When I take it out on the road in Hi Range if I go up a fairly steep long hill the tractor slows down like from 18 MPH to 12MPH.
I notice black smoke coming out of the stack, not a lot but some, and rpms pretty much remain the same. Is this normal?? I have done the "stall test"
by running the engine at 1800 RPM holding the brake in high range and it does stall, takes about 5 seconds but it gradually loads the engine down and it stalls. My thought was that this is like running a standard shift car up a hill in 4th gear without downshifting. Well not exactly but I think you all know what I mean. Thanks for any comments.
