You cannot get the outer plate off until you remove the pump, clutch pack and drum which is all done from the other side. You have to pull the whole unit off and take it apart. You can replace the 1000 rpm seal from the outside but the 540 seal is installed from inside. You need a few special tools that can be made to compress spring of clutch piston and brakes.
