How about the dump valve on the TA? If I remember correctly, It should bottom out on the snapring when the clutch is engaged, and the spool is pulled out of the housing when the clutch is pressed, which shifts the TA into low, allowing easier shifting. Verify the correct adjustment of this valve, as I am not absolutely certain, but I know it is a factor. Your trans brake pad could be toast, too, metal on metal doesn't stop too fast.
