Most likely it is a spline wear issue. The 4th 5th sliding gear is a "gear in 4th only in 5th it couples the input shaft to the output shaft for direct drive. (as in many standard transmissions.) the beating the splines take from grinding from 4th to 5th is the cause. But with a load on a wagon, that is SOP. Try bates equipment for replacement gear/and input shaft. The intermediate pilot bearing in between the shafts can also be worn/broken allowing it to walk out of gear. The ball and spring detents can also be rusted and non functional. Last item is a bent/worn 4th 5th shifter fork. Some of these can be found together contributing to the issue. Jim
