I was working in the shop at an IH dealership when the 2+2 was in its hay day. The guys that had fluid in the front tires, and or put duals on the front axil had problems from the front axil to the rear end. The guys who only dualed the rear and treated them like a 1486 had good luck. IH used a belly mounted piston pump that wasnt the best but the aftermarket companys eliminated that problem. Good engine, most ran around 5000 hours. There is a steering valve in the pivot with four hoses on it, two in, two out, I never understood what it was for, but if you bypass the valve the steering is faster and doesnt wonder as much. Hood latch was poor, some wouldent open and outher customers ran over the hood going across the field. The pph hyd. system has caused lots of problems over the years but you can get a kit to convert it back to the old open center system if worst comes to worst. The 3788 has the same poor three speed trans and outboard planetary axils as a 1586, but the 3388 and 3588 were prety good tractors in our area.
