Hello,
I have been restoring a SMD from my Grandfather and have had quite the Inj. Pump experience. Initially I had a reputable shop go through the injectors and pump and told them do it right. I had pump governor issues after that and they wouldn't help me out. So I sent the pump to a well known reputable pump shop and they resolved the governor problem. Sadly, this pump started dumping diesel into the pump oil reservoir right away and I had to have them send me another pump. So this "new" pump has two issues. The first issue is this pump uses/loses oil. No sump dilution with diesel, it just is low. I added 12cc to top it off after an hour run. I have not heard of this before. The second issue is this pump idles like a pulling tractor at the lowest area of the rpm range. This issue is less annoying than the first. Now I had already called the pump shop manager about the funky idle before I realized it was consuming oil and I am sure he probably doesn't want to hear from me again. I also don't really want to yank the darn pump off again and have to fight the fuel leaks all over. On the other hand I don't want to run the pump out of oil either. I'm afraid a 4 hour run would really take the oil level down.
