1st rotate the engine until the points are open. Check and see if you have power to one side of the points. If no then the problem is between the points and the coil. Next check to see if you have power to the distributer side of the coil by disconnecting the wire and testing at the pole. If you have power throught the coil then the wire or insulator is bad. If you have power to the points close the points and slide a clean piece of paper between the points. Often oil or dirt is on them from the manufacturing process and all they need is cleaned.
