Yes it does matter because you dont know where the rotor was pointed when you removed the dist. Now make sure #1 is on compression and with the plug out you can look and see if the piston is at the top then you can install the dist making sure the rotor is pointed to the wire going to #1. Make a mark on the body of the dist where #1 wire goes that will make it easier to line up the rotor. When engine fires and runs you can move the timing to hear when it sounds best. then it should start great.
