The joy of engine rebuilding is that you never know if it is 'worth it' until it is completely disassembled, the cylinder head has been proven to be crack-free, the block sound, and crankshaft useable. Unfortunately, by that time, a significant commitment in dollars and/or time has been made. Consider the benefit to the tractor that a complete motor overhaul would offer, and budget for the job based on what you know now about the condition of that particular engine. Decide if you want to keep that tractor long enough for the job to 'pay for itself' or will the rest of it be used up, obsolete, or too small. The D282 isn't cheap to do over, but there are worse ones out there, too.
