IMO Bush Hog and Woods make the best rotary/brush mowers. The deck on my 307 is 1/4" thick, "downside" to this is its a heavy piece of equipment but to contradict that its built to last and can take the abuse. Parts are readily available which is a big bonus too!
I had a John Deere 507 that I used before I bought the Bush Hog, that John Deere doesn't hold a candle to what I can mow with my Bush Hog AND also I can no longer get major parts for the 507.
Its basically to each his own, just like JD and IH, Ford and Chevy etc etc etc
