I think most of the problem with the 6 volt systems is that things are weaker (dirty starter, poor connections, etc) on these old tractors. I cleaned my starter/switch up, new cables (even 6 guage) and new battery and mine cranks fine now. Even a minor weak contact will cause a 6 volt system to crank slow or not at all while the 12 can have some voltage drop across connections and may still have 6 or 8 volts to the starter and work great. Bottom line....6 volt needs better maintenance.
