Paul - Glad to hear You "Found" 2nd & 3rd. The tractor will Coast in the low side of the TA (lever back) but You should still be able to tell the diff. in the speeds. The tractor will NOT go slower than it should, Just faster. With TA Ahead the tractor should NOT coast. Most Super MTA's, 400's, 450's, 460, 560's & 656/666/686's shift easier with the TA in the LOW side. Get an operator's manual AND a service manual from "BINDER's BOOKS" on your 400 and keep the TA adjusted correctly. The linkage is all there on the left side of the tractor between the engine & operator's platform. The books tell you everything you need to know!
