Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if there's good suction while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. Low suction means you have low intake manifold vacuum. Do the compression check as been mentioned and if it looks good you probably have an intake manifold leak somewhere. Quirt a little starting fluid where the intake mates to your engine while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. If the engine fires you've probably found the leak. Try tightening the bolts or nuts on the intake manifold if that doesn't help you probably need a new gasket. Hal
