Here is another scenerio ( spelling). Tractor runs for a bit, dies. You hit starter, starter gets stuck, drive to ring gear. So, you loosen starter bolts to allow starter to come loose from flywheel ring gear. Probable reason tractor dies after it had stood for a few days is carburetor float needle stuck so it ran until carb bowl runs dry. To check, take plug out of bottom of carb to check gas flow. If none, tap carb with wood stick, plastic screwdriver handle and see if gas flows. If so, problem solved. If it was not stuck needle, ignore my comments and go with other replys.
