From a look at the parts manual, There are both tapered roller bearings, and ball bearings in the trans. The tapered roller bearings must be assembled with preload, (no looseness at all, but specified pressure.) Ball bearings need .0005 to .001" maximum looseness. They should be located on their shaft and not slide. This is not a perfect answer, but we are not looking at your dial indicator. Jim
