Dont' bother painting it... Use Zinc Phosphate instead. You can bead blast the carb, coat it w/ Zinc Phosphate (available from most auto paint suppliers) and it'll be very rust resistant for many yrs. Its still going to get the nasty brown fuel stains from the ethanol junk gas, but that will clean off w/ carb cleaner without harming the carb finish. Paint just comes off w/ the carb cleaner otherwise. It'll be a natural gray color. I've got carbs that were treated as long as 5 yrs ago and they have zero rust on them. I do, however, keep my tractors inside when not in use.
