While it COULD be an ignition issue (point gap set too close or a failing coil), the problem's most likely fuel starvation.
Remove the plug from the bottom of the carb bowl. You should get a continuous, solid stream of gas. If gas just dribbles out, check/clean the sediment bowl strainer; also the screen behind the carb fuel inlet fitting.
If that doesn't do it, drop the bowl and clean out the float valve. Also check the bottom of the bowl for a build-up of rust, dirt, etc. blocking the main metering jet. If it's at all dirty inside then it's time for a complete tear-down, cleaning and rebuild of the carburetor.
